Get to Know Tracy:
I am a nerd and weirdo, and proud of it. Nerds and weirdos don’t always come in the same shapes and packages. For me, I express this part of myself through an avid love of fantasy, magical worlds, art making, and intense creativity. I love my inner world of imagination and bringing my two boys along for the exciting ride. Singing is another love and soul-nurturing aspect of my life. I am a 14+ year member of Tapestry Singers, a choir for women. I am also part of their a cappella group, Loose Threads. I served as president to the Tapestry board, among other board and committee roles past and present. Fun facts: During undergrad and grad school, I was a nanny to a musical family with two gifted kids and provided voice lessons to middle school students.
Therapeutic Approach:
I’m a passionate and creative therapist who you can get real with. I primarily work with young adults, adults, parents, and professionals. I enjoys helping my clients learn more about themselves and find everyday happiness, peace and acceptance in their lives.
I’ve spent the over a decade dedicated to learning about the gifted (gifted and talented / GT) population and their unique and intricate social & emotional landscape and development. Growing up with the GT label myself, I have personal and firsthand experience with the highs and lows that accompany a complex gifted mind. Growing up gifted is not easy. The word, gifted, itself is often problematic and deserves space to be unpacked. I believe that with each client I connect with, it is important to find the unique human within the gifted label.
You can count on me to weave in humor, imagination, and even playfulness into sessions, as well as mindfulness, compassion, and full acceptance. I thrive upon the meaningful and magnificent connections I make with my clients and the world at large.
Professional Background:
My education in psychology and counseling began at the University of Texas at Austin and continued at St. Edward's University where I graduated with honors. In my early work at Austin Child Guidance Center, I honed my skills in trauma and attachment work, child development, family systems, and parenting for 7 years with the agency before embarking on full-time private practice. From 2012-2016, I provided consultation and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) education to the students, parents, and faculty of Magellan International School. I also created an individualized SEL curriculum for the international baccalaureate school, which was integrated into their classrooms through workshops and small group teaching. One of my most pivotal deep dive trainings was with ADHD expert, James Ochoa, LPC. Through this immersive and intensive training, I honed in on my specialty and passion with the ADD/ADHD population. In addition to specific training with the ADHD, population, I have focused my ongoing training on Internal Family Systems, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Relational Therapy, Systems-Work, and giftedness.
I am a current member of the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the Austin Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and Austin InConnection. I am a licensed supervisor for LPC Associates and LMFT Associates. I utilize my supervisory skills for support and training of the GT Therapy team. I am not accepting supervisees at this time. I value my long-term work with clients who see me through many different stages and ages. I also immensely enjoy short-term work through my hour-long “strategy sessions” that target specific questions about giftedness & twice-exceptionality and what support may be helpful at this juncture, as well as other considerations to factor in the big picture.
